Farmer’s market and dog bowl
June 30, 2008Lovely Saturday buying nice cakes and tea and flowers at the farmer’s market at Clark Park and going to the dog walking bit with a friend’s dog and Mike, BJ and Adam. That was nice. And managed to get some studying done in the evening.
Pretty flower I saw on the way to the park.
Amish people selling interestingly coloured flowers.
Nice park to walk in.
Mint tea for 50c a cup and real mint too!
The strange people that do fencing with large foam spears!
Ooh and I saw a gorgeous golden doodle but didn’t take a picture. I miss Holly.
The only sculpture of Charles Dickens in the USA apparently, with little Nell by the way.

Home
June 27, 2008After 10 hours on the bus and a 1.5 hour wait in New York I got back to Philadelphia and it is very comforting to be here. Feels like home which is strange considering I’ve only been here a few weeks, but it’s the closest thing to a settled place I have for now… It’s nice to see Mike again too.
I got Mike a burrito from Boloco and they had to make it specially because I got there too early and none of the ingredients were ready so I had to tell her the whole story of who it was for and how long the journey was that I was making to bring it to him.
“Mmm…buffalo chicken burrito…the best part of Boston! Oh…and Miriam!”
- Mike
It was great to see Miriam and I’m looking forward to seeing her again before I leave the country.

Reduced to drinking Vitamin Water
June 25, 2008Today I’ve been so tired again and decided that maybe I was tired because I haven’t been exercising… so I walked 4 miles from Miriam’s house in Allston to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and felt even more tired, hence actually buying this sugary watery citrussy drink in the hope it would revive me! Hopefully I might feel the benefits tomorrow.
Looked at a beautiful Donatello relief at the MFA and made some notes on it for my next essay, which I am freaking out about by the way! It’s incredibly graceful with an enormous sense of depth even though it’s only carved from a few milimetres of marble. And from whatever angle you look at it, it looks like a sculpture rather than a flat, painterly image – for example if you crouch underneath it you get the impression of seeing more of the underside of Mary’s leg, even though that impression is given by perspective created through a tiny amount of carving. He must have examined the piece from every angle while he was making it so that it has a sculptural presence.
At the weekend I bought 3 tiny Moleskine sketchpads and two pencils and a rubber and I’m going to start drawing, I really am. I’m going to try and post one drawing per day from now on, because I want to learn to draw so badly, and get myself thinking in that way again… I’m just so scared of making art and thinking about all those things properly again. But I will begin. (And the making of music hasn’t really happened so far, so this might be what I need.)
Thought this picture of me back in Miriam’s room had nice light and dark patches.
And my shoes all smelly and worn out from walking too much!
