Skype!!

Mike’s finally got his new wireless card delivered and is setting up skype as I write! Excited about that…

I’ll let you know how it goes. Have just been sorting out my boxes and drawers at the moment, not much thrilling at the moment!

New room in Sheffield

I bought myself some flowers – a decorative cabbage, a gerbera and a frilly bright green thing. They looks all weird and elegant in my white room.

I have an armchair and a big mattress and big windows that always seem to have light streaming through them. It’s a great room and I imagine I could spend way too much time up there writing stories and drawing and being all solitary… and yes I will probably do quite a lot of that – I find it pretty exhausting being social that often. But, I’m looking forward to getting to know the people in my house too…

A corner of my room – my camera is still in Philadelphia… so I tried to photograph my room with my iSight camera but it’s a little difficult to angle properly!

The monkey was in my room when I arrived. I hope it stays, I quite like it!

Sheffield life

In Fiona’s house at the moment… So far have been quite successful I think:
- have signed up with a brilliant job agency that are going to call up loads of prospective employers for me and prob have some basic admin for me to do starting next week. yay for paying rent!
- have got a house with some really nice people, a big garden that i can help to grow things in, and an art studio in the garden!
- have looked up farmers markets and organic vegetable boxes so will start on those as soon as I have a job
- made a list of galleries to go and look at, and also bought some really nice paper to draw on
- have met some of Fiona’s friends who are really nice and I’m sure I will hang out with them more
- met up with Megan and Jen today which was lovely… there are lots of nice cafes to go to and we went to the cathedral which I might try on Sunday

So it’s going well.

Last day at home… eep!

Then off to Sheffield tomorrow.

Today is Amanda’s wedding… going for goodbye coffee with parents this morning. Dress for Amanda’s wedding is behind me hanging on the door. It’s nice and swirly and small. It’s actually sunny today which is useful.

Have packed a suitcase and have started emptying my wardrobe into bags for taking with me and bags for the charity shop. It’s weird knowing that I will only be there for a year because I’ll be making a room all nice and making effort to fit in there, and then leaving again. Blah. But hopefully the place I go after that will be for a longer time.

Hum… started wrapping a painting that went wrong in red wool. It’s kind of interesting, probably a precursor to something else, at least I hope anyway.

Anyway… out for coffee now.

knitting and not sure what else to do

Still feeling kind of at a loss since last essay handed in… Definitely moving to Sheffield on Sunday though still preeeety terrified. I think I will sort out my room today and work out what to take with me. Still not sure about blog ideas or whether that’s a good idea. Such a dithery waverer.

Not so good at doing this having relaxing days off things. I want to be achieving something but also want to be peaceful. I think I feel best when I’m doing something that I feel enthusiastic about, whether that’s writing an essay on Agnes Martin or learning HTML to make an online portfolio of my writing – which incidentally, I never put online – maybe that’s a good task for this week. I really want something to focus on that I can see through to a successful place. Maybe I haven’t found it yet, or maybe I just lose interest too quickly.

Hum… well sorting out what to pack is something I could achieve today.
